I am pleased to share that I have been invited to chair the Medical Advisory Committee for Macular Degeneration New Zealand (MDNZ). MDNZ is a charity and patient advocacy group dedicated to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This appointment reflects my commitment to the treatment of macular disease in New Zealand and my clinical expertise in AMD.
In this role, I will work to raise public awareness of AMD across the country. A central focus will be advocacy for more funded treatment options through PHARMAC, so that patients can access the therapies they need. With the landscape of dry AMD treatment now changing, MDNZ also has an important part to play in educating both patients and eye care professionals about the role these new therapies can offer.
